Bargain supermarket Lidl has launched a mega colourful range of kitchenware to brighten up any cooking session – and it’s inspired by iconic French brand Le Creuset. A huge array of pots, pans and more are available in a rainbow of colour ways featuring an Ombré effect.
Simply so, are all cast iron pans heavy?
A traditionally-designed cast iron skillet is plain, round, and heavy. It has one or two pouring spouts and comes with a bare-iron handle, without the bells and whistles, and may or may not have a helper handle on the other side.
Also, does brand matter for cast iron?
I agree with you that the quality of a cast iron skillet is likely to be of little difference between brands. Certainly casting iron is a lower tech manufacturing process than a copper and stainless steel skillet, for instance.
Is a cast iron pan worth it?
Cast iron cookware is worth using in the form of pans, griddles, skillets, Dutch ovens, and other shapes of cookware. The iron holds the heat and spreads it evenly for various types of cooking. A cast-iron pan is an unbeatable kitchen equipment piece due to its functionality, durability, and versatility.
Not all Le Creuset products get made in France, but the brand manufactures all cast iron products at the original foundry in Northern France. Le Creuset makes its stainless steel products in Portugal, the stoneware comes from Thailand and the accessories come from China.
In fact, Le Creuset enameled cast iron is still manufactured in our Fresnoy-le-Grand foundry, where each piece passes through the hands of at least 15 artisans to ensure quality and innovation.
4 Things You Should Never Cook in Cast Iron:
- Smelly foods. Garlic, peppers, some fish, stinky cheeses and more tend to leave aromatic memories with your pan that will turn up in the next couple of things you cook in it. …
- Eggs and other sticky things (for a while) …
- Delicate fish. …
- Acidic things—maybe.

While enamel is useful in that it eliminates the pitted surface of cast iron where food can more readily get trapped and stick, it is not inherently nonstick and does not build up a seasoning. So each time you cook, you’ll need a sufficient amount of fat to avoid stuck-on messes.
Cast iron is harder, more brittle, and less malleable than wrought iron. It cannot be bent, stretched, or hammered into shape, since its weak tensile strength means that it will fracture before it bends or distorts. It does, however, feature good compression strength.
Why is cast iron so expensive? It takes a lot more material and effort to create a cast iron skillet compared to, say, non-stick cookware. Making a cast iron pan is also time consuming: It requires a lot of grinding to get the right finish. Finally, cast iron pans last a long time—and quality doesn’t come cheap.
The design of Le Creuset is pretty much flawless. It’s one of the lightest cast iron pieces available with an even weight and great feeling. The interior of the pots provide maximum cooking capacity while even the plastic knobs can withstand a high amount of heat coming from an oven.
