Weight loss diet – should it mean no desserts at all? A perfect diet
plan has to cater for a dessert at least  once in a while, if not once a day,
so that your taste buds don’t starve even if you are on a diet-plan to lose weight.
In fact there are plenty of low-fat desserts that can be prepared without
compromising on taste.

Creamy Fig Dessert

We can prepare a mouth-watering creamy diet-dessert with fresh figs
without even a hint of cream. Chopped figs make it feel crunchy,
and low-fat thickened milk gives it a creamy touch. Milk strengthens our bones and
gives the much needed protein.

Preparation Time: 10 mins.
Cooking time: 10 mins.
Serves: 4 people

Ingredients

Thickened low-fat milk: 600ml
Finely chopped fresh fig: 250g
Juice of half lemo
Cornflour: 1tbsp
Sugar: 2tbsp
Lemon zest for flavor: of one lemon

Garnishing

A few round slices of fig and roasted crushed almonds

Method

1. Pour the thickened milk into a saucepan and
bring it to a boil. Put the burner on low heat. Add lemon juice  to the
boiling milk, very little at a time while continuously stirring.
2. Milk will curdle a little. Take care not to put the lemon juice
all at once, otherwise  entire milk will curdle and the recipe does not call
for it.
3. Mix corn flour in a little water. Pour it into
the thickened milk while stirring continuously. Add sugar and simmer for a
minute or two.
4. Add chopped figs and fold them without breaking the pieces.
Chill in the refrigerator. Garnish with fig slices and serve.

Apple crumble

Stewed apple with a topping of muesli turns out to be a hard to
resist crunchy dessert. Make healthy muesli from ingredients like oats, almonds and
walnuts, all of which make your weight loss diet-dessert delicious. This diet
dessert is loved by all, because of its flavourful roasted  nuts . So bake it
 and enjoy!

Preparation Time : 10 mins.
Cooking Time: 10 mins.
Baking Time : 15 mins.
Total time: 35 mins.
Baking Temperature : 180°C (360°F).
Serves: 4 people.

Ingredients

For the stewed apples

Sliced apples: 4 cups
Sugar: 1 tbsp
Water: half cup
Lemon juice: 1 lemon
cinnamon stick: 1

For the muesli

Quick cooking rolled oats: 2 tbsp
Chopped almonds: 1 tbsp
Chopped walnuts: 1 tbsp
Raisins: 1 tbsp
Cinnamon powder: 1/4 tsp
Vanilla essence: 1/8 tsp

Other ingredients

Oil for greasing: 1tsp

Method

For the stewed apples

1. In a cooking pan mix some water, sugar, lemon
juice
. Add cinnamon sticks.
2. Put sliced apples and cook them till the they are soft.

For the muesli

1. Slightly roast oats, almonds and walnuts. Use a non-stick pan to
roast on a low flame for 5 minutes. This process will help retain the original taste
of the nuts an well as make them crisp too.
2. Add raisins, vanilla essence and cinnamon powder.
3. Pound it and keep.

Baking

1. Grease a baking tray and put the stewed
apples.

2. Cover the apples with muesli and sprinkle some
sugar on top.
3. Bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes or till the muesli turn
golden in colour.
4. For best taste serve immediately otherwise the
topping may not remain as crunchy.
